Tokenized stock trading jumps 288% in July, led by a single QQQ-linked product

Tokenized equity trading rose sharply in July, but most of the activity appears to have come from one QQQ-linked token, QQQB, according to CoinDesk. Without it, monthly volume would have been materially lower.

Tokenized stock trading rose 288% in July, but the headline gain was heavily concentrated in one product: QQQB, a token linked to the Nasdaq-100 ETF QQQ, according to CoinDesk.

The concentration matters. Without QQQB, July volume for tokenized equities would have been roughly $2.03 billion, which is about 30% below June’s total, the report said. That suggests the broader market for tokenized stocks may not have expanded as dramatically as the top-line figure implies.

Tokenized equities have been attracting attention as crypto platforms and market infrastructure firms look for ways to bring traditional assets onchain. The appeal is straightforward: investors can get exposure to familiar names through blockchain-based instruments that may trade around the clock and settle differently from conventional securities. But the market is still early, and activity can be skewed by a small number of instruments.

July’s data appears to underline that point. A surge in overall volume does not necessarily indicate broad-based adoption across tokenized stocks. Instead, it may reflect a burst of trading in a specific product with stronger brand recognition or clearer use case than the rest of the category.

The QQQB token’s influence also raises a familiar question for emerging market segments: whether volume growth is being driven by durable demand or by a single popular vehicle. In this case, the source data suggests the latter played a major role.

Even so, tokenized equities remain a closely watched part of the digital-asset market because they sit at the intersection of crypto rails and traditional securities exposure. Their development will likely be judged not just by total volume, but by whether activity broadens beyond a few prominent tickers or wrappers.

For now, July’s numbers point to a market that can post sharp percentage growth while still depending on a limited set of trades. As CoinDesk reported, the strong monthly advance in tokenized stock volume was real, but much of it came down to one QQQ-linked token.
