Bitcoin Holds Near $64,000 as Korea’s Rally Leaves Crypto Behind

Bitcoin traded near $64,000 after a record surge in South Korea’s Kospi pushed Samsung and SK Hynix sharply higher, while major cryptocurrencies remained subdued.

Bitcoin was little changed near $64,000 on Friday even as South Korean equities staged a sharp rally, underscoring the gap between a booming local stock market and a muted crypto session.

The Kospi jumped 17%, a record move that sent heavyweight chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix higher by more than 23% each, according to CoinDesk. The surge highlighted how strongly investors were rotating into Korean equities, while digital assets saw little spillover from the move.

Bitcoin moved only a fraction of a percent over the past 24 hours, leaving the largest cryptocurrency effectively flat on the day. The broader crypto market also lacked momentum. Most major tokens were still lower on the week, suggesting the latest trading session did little to reverse the softer tone that has developed across the sector.

The disconnect between equities and crypto comes at a time when traders are weighing multiple market narratives at once. In this case, however, the strength in the Kospi appeared to be driven by local factors, with the headline gains concentrated in semiconductor names rather than risk assets broadly. Crypto, which often trades on its own catalysts and liquidity cycles, did not react in a meaningful way.

Bitcoin’s narrow trading range also reflects a market that has been stuck in a holding pattern. After a period of stronger moves, recent price action has been comparatively subdued, with traders appearing reluctant to extend risk exposure. The lack of follow-through in majors outside bitcoin has added to the sense of caution.

At current levels, bitcoin remains close to the $64,000 area, but the market has not shown a clear push in either direction. With most major cryptocurrencies still down on the week, the tone remains mixed rather than decisively bullish or bearish.

The latest session suggests that strong equity performance in one region does not necessarily translate into immediate demand for crypto assets. For now, bitcoin is tracking its own range, and Friday’s market action left that picture largely unchanged.
